Tampa provides a richly diverse cultural heritage, which is one of the many reasons that make the Tampa Bay area such a fascinating place. Major league sports are all represented in the area with 2003 Super Bowl Champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers whose home is the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays making Tropicana Field, in Downtown St. Petersburg, its home, and the New York Yankees, whose stadium is located just next door to the Buccaneers. That's not all - Orlando's major attractions, including Disney and Universal Studios are a short 90 minutes away. What else can you ask - we have it all - something for every member of your family - sun, sand, sea, culture, sports, theme parks, thrilling rides, romantic beaches, great food - all of this makes our Private Beach Condo one of the most perfect vacation homes in the Central Florida area. BUSCH GARDENS Busch Gardens is one of the number one tourist attractions in Tampa and can probably only be outdone by Disney World in nearby Orlando. Busch Gardens is an African Adventure Theme Park with roller coasters, water rides, and bumper cars. You can see lots of wildlife including lions, elephants, rhinos, and giraffes. This is a 300 acre amusement park and zoo., open 7 days per week, with opening hours varying according to the time of year. Busch Gardens is located on Busch Boulevard, Tampa, FL. ADVENTURE ISLAND Adventure Island is a large water park (36 acres) featuring water slides, wave pools, water volleyball, heated pools - open from March to October and located on Busch Blvd, by Busch Gardens in Tampa FL. WEEKI WACHEE SPRINGS Weeki Wachee Springs is an older Florida attraction of Mermaid shows with a recently added water park and boat rides. (Tel: 352 596-2062 or 1-877-GO-WEEKI). This is a short drive north on US 19. Website address: www.weekiwachee.com. SILVER SPRINGS THEME PARK This is another older Florida attraction, featuring glass bottom sides and with a host of new additions over the years. It is believed that some of the original Tarzan movies were filmed here. Located in Ocala, FL they also have hosted many country western star concerts throughout the years. WILD WATERS WATER PARK This is adjacent to Silver Springs and you can get more information by visiting their website at: www.wildwaterspark.com. TARPON SPRINGS A short drive south on US 19 will take you to the town of Tarpon Springs, a must see during your stay. This is an authentic Greek Sponge-diving and fishing village, which grew up during a time when we got our sponges from the seas. Tarpon Springs was even featured on an early American movie. When you visit the street along the sponge docks, you will experience great Greek food (Gyros, and the pastries are a must taste) at the many small restaurants and shops. There is also a quaint museum called SPONGEORAMA with sponge diving exhibitions and which captures the history of the sponge industry. SUNCOAST SEABIRD SANCTUARYThis is North America's largest wild bird hospital and is located a short drive up the nearby highway. There are usually and literally over 500 injured birds on display. SUNKEN GARDENS This is thought to be the oldest family-owned attraction in Florida, and is regarded as one of the best botanical exhibits in North America. The exhibit features an exotic collection of more than 50,000 tropical plants, birds and animals. To check for hours of operation call (727) 551-3100. Their address is 1825 4th St. N., St. Petersburg. SCUBA WEST Scuba West is widely known and respected and will give you a quality diving experience. There is more than one location in the Tampa / Clearwater area - you can look them up in a local directory. SIMPLY SCUBA Another quality diving store also located in Hudson, just yards away from our vacation condo. THE TAMPA BAY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, INC. The largest performing arts center in Southeastern United States. The Center provides a venue for a wide variety of concerts, and events, including live dramatic performances with something for everyone.CALADESI ISLAND STATE PARK This is one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands in the state, and is comprised of six islands with a total of approximately 650 upland acres and more than 1,100 acres of surrounding mangroves and grass flats. You can spend your day at the park fishing, shelling, or just enjoying nature. If you are a boater you can enjoy the 99 slip bay-side marina, or in calm weather, anchor offshore. Lots of available amenities - picnic pavilions, bath houses and a convenient park concession. Accessible to the handicapped. Hourly ferry service. LOWRY PARK ZOO One of the top three zoos of its size in North America; this facility offers an Asian domain, primate area, children's petting zoo, Florida Wildlife Center, Manatee Aquatic Center and more. BIG RED BALLOON SIGHTSEEING ADVENTURES Sunrise and panoramic hot balloon views of Tampa's ariel landscape of lakes and wildlife. Sunrise flights include complimentary champagne brunch. PETERSBURG PIER Located on the waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg, The Pier, a popular festival market, offers fun, food, shopping and entertainment and features a fascinating five story inverted-pyramid with giant tubes bubbling with fish and creatures from the sea. The second floor aquarium is filled with native and tropical fish and sharks. Hands-on educational exhibits from the Great Explorations Museum, the historic H.M.S. Bounty docked pier side, live musical entertainment, plus boat shows - there's always something going on for the whole family to enjoy as well as a fantastic view with brilliant Florida Coast sunsets. AQUARIUMS: See ST. PETERSBURG PIER above featuring their 2nd story aquarium filled with tropical fish and sharks. CLEARWATER MARINE AQUARIUM Live and model displays of area marine life, including dolphins, sea turtles and much more. KONGER CORAL SEA AQUARIUM 120,000 gallon main tank aquarium plus other displays featuring marine life. THE FLORIDA AQUARIUM This is the state's only aquarium offering a dramatic, unique and educational look at the astonishing world of Florida's diverse water habitats. MUSEUMS: SALVADOR DALI MUSEUM Salvador DalĄ is known as a leader of the surrealist movement. The museum's collection of his work includes 95 oil paintings, over 100 watercolors and drawings, 1,300 graphics, plus posters, photos, sculptures and objets d'art. Although DalĄ is best known for his Surrealist period (1929-1940), this collection contains works dating from 1914 and spans his lifetime.TAMPA BAY HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM AND EDUCATIONAL CENTER This is the fourth largest Holocaust museum in the U.S. and is dedicated to advancing public awareness, education and understanding of the Holocaust, while honoring the memory of millions of innocent people who suffered, struggled and died. It seeks to promote the lessons of tolerance, respect and responsibility. MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS Features paintings by such artists as Fragonard, Vigee-Lebrun, Monet, Moirot, Renoir, Cezanne, Gauguin and Georgia O'Keefe; sculptures by Rodin, MacMonnies and Barye; an entire Steuben crystal gallery and a Tribal Arts gallery. GREAT EXPLORATIONS: THE HANDS-ON MUSEUM A "hands-on" children's museum and learning center. MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY (MOSI) The Southeast's largest science center offers high-value entertainment through interactive, permanent exhibits plus a variety of traveling shows and demonstrations, featuring Florida's only IMAX Dome Theater, MOSIMAX. YBOR CITY STATE MUSEUM This museum is housed in a hundred year old bakery building. It captures the political, social and cultural influences that shaped Tampa's Latin Quarter. You can see how a typical cigar maker lived, while taking a look at the area's ethnic past. HENRY B. PLANT MUSEUM An 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel and a national Historic Landmark. This Victorian palace features unique Moorish revival architecture and dramatic minarets. Enjoy the opulent European furniture and art treasures of the Gilded Age and visit the permanent exhibit on the Spanish American War. TAMPA BAY HISTORY CENTER The permanent gallery contains photos and artifacts which present the history of the last 12,000 years of the Tampa Bay area, up to the 1940's. Our temporary gallery contains a variety of traveling exhibits. TAMPA MUSEUM of ART Tampa's premier downtown cultural facility offers changing visual arts exhibition of collections from around the world and from the museum's own permanent collection. GULF COAST MUSEUM OF ART Near Clearwater, the Gulf Coast Museum of Art is located in the heart of the Pinewood Cultural Park - an innovative interdisciplinary park with three unique institutions joined together to combine the disciplines of history, botanical science and the arts. The Gulf Coast Museum of Art, Heritage Village and the Pinellas County Historical Museum, and The Florida Botanical Gardens have given rise to the only interdisciplinary park of its kind in the nation! Over 180 acres of lush, tropical foliage, contemporary art and turn-of-the-century homes at the Pinewood Cultural Park, plus acres of hiking trails, picnic areas and lakes across the road at the Walsingham Recreational Park, guarantees a great deal of family fun and shared learning. FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM The Florida International Museum is centered in the cultural heart of Tampa Bay-Downtown St. Petersburg. It has been visited by over two million people with visitors coming from all 50 states and over 100 countries in just five exhibitions, making it Florida's premier museum for blockbuster exhibitions. Some past exhibits include the Empires of Mystery- the largest exhibition of Peruvian artifacts ever displayed in the U.S., Titanic: The Exhibition-the world s largest exhibition of artifacts recovered from the wreck site of the famous ship, plus exhibits from Eygpt, Russia, and one on Alexander the Great.
